Data says that Ireland would be reunified in 2024 as a result of a successful terrorist campaign. Due to what no doubt many people will still consider to be sensitive content, the episode has never been shown on terrestrial TV in UK or in the Republic of Ireland and initial airings on Sky One were edited.
Oddly we watched that series 3 episode a couple of weeks ago for the first time as I got the TNG boxset in the January sales and we noticed that too.
In the episode though the terrorists are stopped and hope is brought for chance of a brighter future in one of the final scenes described much better than I could in a Star Trek episode guide: From behind, a boy points a weapon at Devos preparing to kill her. Crusher intervenes and says "No more killing". In conflict with his beliefs, he agrees with Crusher and lowers his weapon.
In light of current events it might be about time some people watched some Star Trek :)
On a side note, in the Star Trek timeline not long after the re-unification of Ireland comes WWIII and 600 million are killed in a nuclear war :-/
Haha! We should strap them to a chair, peel their eyelids open like "A Clockwork Orange" and force them to watch all the Star Trek episodes. Maybe they will change their ways!
